Fuji TV announces Arashi campaign to usher in the new year

On Tuesday, Fuji TV held a press conference to announce a “Fuku Arashi Campaign,” which will have Arashi getting increased airtime between December 17 and January 3. This includes limited-time commercials for the campaign that will air during that period, as well as several special programs featuring the group’s members and a giveaway campaign.

According to the Sports Hochi newspaper, the campaign includes a special TV mini-program with Arashi that will air late at night every night between December 27 and January 3, though December 31 will be skipped since Arashi are hosting NHK’s Kouhaku Uta Gassen that night.

On January 3, Arashi will have a “Kotatsu DE Arashi” special and a “VS Arashi” special, plus Ohno Satoshi’s drama special “Mou Yuukai Nante Shinai” (previously announced here). The drama special will feature guest appearances by Sakurai Sho (as his butler character in this season’s “Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de”) and Matsumoto Jun (as his detective character in next season’s “Lucky Seven”).

It is also reported that Fuji TV’s website will have a special original game called “Fuku Arashi Warai” that uses the facial features of Arashi’s members.

The “Fuku Arashi” campaign symbol, which has messages written on it by the group, will be on display in Omotesando Hills from December 27 to January 3.

Sakurai and Matsujun to guest star in Ohno’s upcoming drama

Sho Sakurai and Jun Matsumoto will not only guest in Satoshi Ohno’s upcoming drama, they will play characters they act in their own dramas, it was revealed on December 6, reports Oricon.

 Representatives at Fuji TV, who are making Ohno’s New Year’s drama “もう誘拐なんてしない (Mou Yukai nante Shinai)”, announced Arashi’s Sakurai will reprise his role as butler-and-detective Kageyama from his current drama “謎解きはディナーのあとで (Nazo-toki wa Dinner no Atode)”, while Matsumoto will play his newbie detective character from his upcoming TV drama series “ラッキーセブン (Lucky Seven)”.

“It’s not like usual, it’s not very Arashi-like,” Matsumoto said.

 The announcement was made at a press conference where all five Arashi members were promoting a New Year’s campaign for the TV company.  It has been reported Sakurai said he had been given the script for the drama a few days ago, and was already excited to be part of the project.

“The first page had Ohno’s name, and then on the second page was Matsumoto’s and my name.  It just made me happy that I carry it around with me every day,” he said.

 On the other side though, a disapproving Kazunari Ninomiya and Masaki Aiba questioned their leader as to why they had not been invited.

“What about us, Ohno-kun?  Not that I’m asking for a big part, but there’s still a chance if you’re still filming, right.  Where are you filming it,” Aiba said.

“I haven’t gotten any invitations yet.  I don’t mind going straight to the set to meet everyone either,” Ninomiya said.

“Not this time,” Ohno said, before the two tried comforting one another by saying they’d work harder on “VS Arashi”.

After Sakurai’s current drama series finishes and before Matsumoto’s drama series begins, Fuji TV will air a series of Arashi specials.

The entire campaign is called “福嵐 (Fuku-Arashi)”, and will include s TV special that looks back on Arashi’s career and a VS Arashi special.  Commercials for Fuku-Arashi will go on air in Japan between December 17 and January 3, with special one-day-only commercials on January 3.  Fuji TV also plans to open a special website, where fans will be able to play Arashi games and quizzes, plus a special lottery to win Arashi merchandise.

It’s been announced that Arashi members Sakurai Sho and Matsumoto Jun will make guest appearance on fellow member Ohno Satoshi’s upcoming special drama “Mou Yuukai nante Shinai“.

 This special drama is a comical mystery about a freeter (Ohno) who receives the odd request to fake the kidnapping of racketeer boss daughter, (Aragaki Yui).

Sakurai will appear in the special drama as the butler “Kageyama” which is from Sakurai’s ongoing drama “Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de“, while Matsumoto will make an appearance as “Tokita Shuntaro” which is from Matsumoto’s upcoming “Getsu9″ drama “Lucky Seven.”

The announcement for Sakurai and Matsumoto’s guest appearance on Ohno’s drama was made during the press conference for “Fuku Arashi” campaign which is to promote the special TV programs on Fuji TV in which Arashi appears at the end of the year and New Year season.  There will be a special CM for the campaign starring Arashi during December 17th ~ January 3rd for a limited term, and on Fuji TV’s official site, there will also be an original game “Fuku Arashi Warai.”

At the press conference, Sakurai who received the script for the drama a few days ago, commented, “I saw Ohno’s name on the first page, and my name and Matsumoto’s name on the following pages on the script.  I’m happy to see it, so I am carrying it around with me everyday.”  Matsumoto also commented, “He (Ohno) has different atmosphere at the shoot for drama which is not Arashi-like.  So I’m looking forward to see it at the shoot.”

On the other hand, other members Ninomiya Kazunari and Aiba Masaki seem to be little dissatisfied, as Aiba said to Ohno at the press conference, “Ohno-kun, what about us? Though we don’t have any role we have with us right now, it’s not too late if you guys are still shooting.  Where are you guys filming at?“, and Ninomiya also said, “I haven’t been offered yet. I don’t mind if I have to meet you at the filming location.”  Unfortunately, Ohno refused them saying, “Not this time.” Therefore the two said while consoling each other, “Shall we do our best on ‘VS Arashi‘ then?”

“Mou Yuukai nante Shinai” is scheduled to be aired on January 3rd on Fuji TV.

Aiba Masaki visits Taiwan

Arashi’s Aiba Masaki recently attended the world premiere for the documentary, “Nihon Retto Ikimono Tachi no Monogatari“, in Taiwan.

This film was presented in Taiwan to thank the students of Affiliated Experimental Elementary School at Taipei Municipal University of Education, who gathered donations for the victims of the Tohoku Earthquake back in March. A total of 250 people, mainly consisting of students, were invited to attend the screening party.

The students of the school shared a part of their allowance, and donated a total of 300,000 yen (around $4000 usd). Aiba expressed, “I was deeply moved by the support of the children. I am honored to first screen this film in Taiwan, who gave us their warm support.” He then promoted the documentary saying, “I want children all over the world to see the family love and bond of animals that is portrayed in the film.”

A press conference was held before the screening party, where Aiba was asked to compare the members of Arashi to an animal. “Ohno-kun likes to fish, so maguro (tuna)!“,  he responded, causing the crowd to burst into laughter.

Since Arashi has held a concert in Taiwan previously back in 2006 and 2008, the fans enthusiastically welcomed Aiba when he arrived at the airport and while sight-seeing with the students. He promised, “Out of gratitude, I want to hold a live again in Taiwan.”

Arashi get show on NHK (UPDATED)

Arashi fans will see their favourite stars meeting people and finding new things in different areas around Japan in their special show on NHK, reports Oricon and Chunichi Sports.

“嵐の明日に架ける旅 (Arashi no Ashita ni Kakeru Tabi)” will be shown on November 23 at 19:30 local time in Japan, and will feature all of the Arashi members going around Japan to find inspiring stories to cheer on the Japanese people getting over from the March 11 disaster.

It has been reported Satoshi Ohno had visited Miyagi prefecture, and met a group of people putting on superhero shows for children in the earthquake disaster zone. Kazunari Ninomiya had visited Wakayama prefecture, and went to a family-run soy sauce factory determined to keep using an almost 200-year-old recipe. Jun Matsumoto had visited a small factory in Saitama prefecture, which creates accessories that have become a must-have for celebrities around the globe. Sho Sakurai had visited Toyama prefecture where he met at woman who made the decision to go home and help her parents on their farm. Masaki Aiba had met a goggle-eyed goby fisherman with a unique way of fishing, and tries it himself.

“Through this show, I learnt about Japanese people, their skills, traditions, and how close they are to one another. I hope everyone can get a sense of how amazing it was,” Ninomiya said.

Arashi have donned their traveling gear once again for a special NHK program called “Arashi no Asu ni Kakeru Tabi“. It’s a special documentary that seeks to rediscover the will and strength of the Japanese people. Consequently, the members travel all over the nation, interviewing outstanding individuals who possess great potential in shepherding Japan’s future.

Ninomiya Kazunari visits a soy sauce brewery in Yuasa-cho, Wakayama, which has more than 170 years of history. He commented, “We were able to learn about the numerous people, skills, traditions, and ties in Japan. We would like everyone to feel how wonderful it was.”

Leader Ohno Satoshi introduces “Eager”, the local hero of Onagawa town in Miyagi prefecture. He also meets the people from Onagawa’s Commerce and Industry section, who continues to hold hero shows for local kids even after the Tohoku earthquake.

Matsumoto Jun visits a small factory in Kawaguchi-city, Saitama, which makes bags and small articles that are loved by stars all over the world. He investigates the background behind these beloved items.

As for Sakurai Sho, he flies to Toyama-city, Toyama, where he meets a 25-year-old lady who chose to work for her parents’ farm. It’s an unusual decision for modern times, and so he seeks to discover her reason to farm.

Finally, Aiba Masaki visits Kashima-city, Saga, where he partakes in “Mutsukake fishing”, which is a unique way to fish the mudskippers in the Ariake Sea. He tackles the challenge of tideland fishing, and encounters a young man who’s apparently the first successor in 30 years for this old fishing tradition.

“Arashi no Asu ni Kakeru Tabi” will air on November 23rd at 7:30 PM JST.

Arashi & Inoue Mao become the hosts for NHK’s ‘Kohaku Uta Gassen’! 2011 (update)

Inoue Mao, who starred in the NHK fictional series "Ohisama" this year, has been chosen as the MC for  NHK's Kouhaku Uta Gassen 2011, representing the Red Team. As her partner, Arashi has been chosen to represent the White Team.
"Ohisama" received quite a high rating, especially in the area stricken by disaster, such as Fukushima prefecture.

This year’s 62nd Kouhaku Song Festival carries the theme “Ashita wo Utaou. (Let’s sing for tomorrow).” It is to make 2011/12/31 as “the day to take the first step like 123″, and make it a positive show in order to step forward to a bright tomorrow.Centering around the rebuilding after the Tohoku Earthquake

Therefore, American singer Lady Gaga, who had expressed support for the victims of the disaster, has been “unoffically confirmed” as attending Kouhaku and they also reported that there will be a “special programme surprise”. Although there has been no official announcement from NHK regarding the participants for Kouhaku, the netizens were greatly excited by this report.

This year’s “62nd Kohaku Uta Gassen” will air 15 minutes earlier than the usual, at 7:15 pm. With this earlier airing, this year’s Kohaku will be the longest broadcast in history,The station will consider increases in the number of participants and songs at a later date. The end time of the broadcast remains the same at 11:45 pm.

It’s been announced that Inoue Mao and Arashi have been chosen to become the hosts for NHK’s annual New Year’s Eve music show, “The 62nd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen“!

This is the second consecutive year for Arashi to participate in Kohaku as the host for ‘Shirogumi‘ (the team with male artists or group with male vocals). Last year, Shirogumi won the Kohaku, and its leader,Ohno Satoshi, proudly collected the championship flag. Ohno mused, “I would like to grab the flag again.”

On the other hand, this is the first time for Inoue Mao to be chosen as a Kohaku host. She will be doing so on behalf of ‘Akagumi‘ (the team with female artists or group with female vocals).  Inoue expressed her eagerness to grab the flag by saying, “Akagumi has had six consecutive  defeats, so I want to win this year.”

The theme of Kohaku for this year is “Ashita wo Utaou” (“Let’s sing for tomorrow”), which aims to conclude the year of 2011 brightly through the power of song. Many anxieties rocked Japan this year due to the Tohoku earthquake and devastating typhoon, and so the event hopes to start 2012 with good cheer.

Sakurai Sho said, “When we first participated in Kohaku as a performer, which was in 2009, the theme of the year was ‘Uta no Chikara∞Mugendai (“The power of songs ∞ infinity”).’  This year, I would like to help the artists’ ‘power of songs’ as the host.”

As reported previously, AKB48 and Terry Ito will be the “Kohaku supporters” for this year.

Arashi reveals PV preview of “Meikyu Love Song”

After releasing their full song on the radio earlier, Arashi has now revealed a PV preview for “Meikyu Love Song“.

The boys tackle a ‘Jumanji-esque’ theme, where they have to complete a variety of fun challenges in a ‘Puzzle Adventure Land’. The boys duel against a skeleton, sing on top of gigantic dice, ‘escape’, and much more.
