Which celebrities had the most CM contracts in the first half of 2013?

  

The media analysts at Nihon Monitor have released their half-yearly list that breaks down which celebrities had the most commercial contracts in the last six months of the whole year.

For the male celebrity ranking, it's absolutely no surprise to see pro golfer Ishikawa Ryo at the top again, topping the list for the fourth consecutive time. However, this time he had to share first place with Arashi's Sakurai Sho and actor Mukai Osamu. Are those two going to threaten his throne in the coming rankings? Child actor Suzuki Fuku also proves to be one of the few exceptions when it comes to the fading popularity of child actors in the commercial sector.

The female celebrity ranking experienced a remarkable change of order compared to the previous year. In the 2012 ranking, the complete top 4 was claimed by current and former members of AKB48 and their sister groups. This year the idols have lost a lot of ground to actresses and other talents again, with the young actress Takei Emi snatching the crown all by herself. Her total amount of 15 CM contracts even makes all the top male celebrities look like amateurs this time.

Last year's CM Queen Shinoda Mariko ranked second this time, followed by Rola and Goriki Ayame on the third place. Of course, there is also still very high demand for Takei and Goriki's agency senior Ueto Aya.

As for the second half of the year, it will be interesting to see how long the child actors Suzuki Fuku and Tani Kanon will be able to maintain their high popularity. Fellow child actress Ashida Mana, who had 15 contracts last year, already didn't make it into the ranking this time. Will Ishikawa Ryo catch up with Kimura Takuya and top the ranking for five consecutive times? Moreover, AKB48 will have to push new members to become their CM queens after the graduation of Shinoda Mariko and Itano Tomomi later this year.

Arashi is in new TV CM for JAL

Popular group Arashi has starred in a new CM for Japan Airlines (JAL) as their image characters.

In this new endorsement, they are featured in a summer vacation trip with an alien who offers a free trip to these five members, and they energetically take up the offer. However, the travel proves to be less than satisfactory due to the unfamiliar noise, foul-smelling environment, and odd colored drinks. Despite that, they endure the situation because it’s free until member Ninomiya Kazunari states, “But there is JAL’s Sakitoku deal available,” and introduces JAL’s advance purchase deal.

During the shooting of this new endorsement, the members of the group showed much curiousity in the alien, who took two hours to put on his special makeup, and asked questions like, “How do you breathe?”

This new CM, “JAL ARASHI LABO: Summer Vacation Sakitoku ‘One’s Feeling While Driving’”, started airing in Japan on the 9th.

Which artist earns the most in Japan?

Japanese magazine, Josei Jisin, revealed a list of the most highly paid celebrities for commercials, and some familiar names made it into the higher ranks.

Arashi came in at the top spot, reportedly earning 150 million yen (approx. $1.95mil USD), ahead of SMAP who earned 120 million yen (approx. $1.56mil USD). Jang Keun Suk was the fourth most highly paid male star for modelling. At his highest, he used to be paid 120 million yen, but he soon lowered his fee to about 80 million yen “because Jang Keun Suk became too expensive, many companies started to pull out their contracts”.

The top spot for female modeling fees went to Japan’s beloved idol group AKB48. AKB48, who is rewriting J-Pop history by releasing million-seller albums and singles, was priced at about 50 million yen (approx. $650,000 USD).

KARA was revealed to be of top star status in Japan by ranking third at around 40-50 million yen. According to the article, KARA is the most highly priced Korean idol singer, and is considered well worth the price.

Girls’ Generation, tied with several other female stars at #12, was priced at 30 million yen, while Tohoshinki came in seventh on the male star list at 40 million yen.

Matsumoto Jun kisses Kiritani Mirei in new Fasio CM

On January 10th, a new Fasio CM featuring Arashi’s Matsumoto Jun (28) and actress Kiritani Mireiwas broadcasted nationwide.

In this endorsement, titled “Saikyo no Eye”, Kiritani applies on the “Ultra Curl Lock Mascara” to her lashes, which draws the romantic affections of Matsumoto who approaches her and kisses her long lashes. \

At first, the two said they felt embarrassed by the act but later, they grew more comfortable and did their best and enjoyed themselves as best they could at their shoot.

Arashi’s Jun Matsumoto to star in beauty website commercials

Fans will be able to see Arashi’s Jun Matsumoto make several different comments about women’s hair and nails in his upcoming commercials, reports Sankei Sports and Sponichi Annex.

Matsumoto will star in two commercials for Japan’s beauty website Hot Pepper Beauty, which go on air from today. It has been reported in the commercials, Matsumoto looks at the camera, where a girl is supposedly sitting, and comments about herhairstyle or nails.  The Arashi star was asked to say up to 20 different comments, and different comments will be aired depending on the region it’s shown in.

But with comments like, “my heart starts beating faster when I look at you”, it has been reported Matsumoto found it hard to say his lines with a straight face.

“I was embarrassed throughout filming, sometimes I’d just start laughing, but it was fun,” he said.

Arashi to sing for Sakurai Sho’s upcoming drama

Previously, we reported that Arashi member, Sakurai Sho and actress Kitagawa Keiko would be starring in Fuji TV’s new drama, “Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de.” Well, recently, it was announced that Arashi’s new song “Meikyu Love Song” has been chosen as the theme song of the drama.

Details on the song including the release date have not been revealed at this moment.

Ohno To Be in CM for Morinaga Biscuits

It seems Nino isn't the only one having fun with CM's! Arashi's leader Ohno is also due to air in a CM for Morinaga Biscuits. Also staring in the CM will be actress Nakama Yukie!

The duo will be showing the world (or Japan) how good the different flavors are. But not only that, it seems Ohno has changed his look but wouldn't say for the better! This CM is set to air in Japan with in a few weeks. For now you can check out a few pictures.

Ninomiya Kazunari chosen as new CM character for “Pocky”

Arashi’s Ninomiya Kazunari has been chosen as the new image character for the chocolate snack, “Pocky“, and will be appearing in their CM starting September 20th. In the CM, Ninomiya dances to hip-hop artist MC Hammer’s signature song, “U Can’t Touch This“.

The CM comes in two versions: ‘Drink & Po’ episode, and ‘ALL’ episode. In the ‘Drink & Po’ episode, Ninomiya appears in black from head-to-toe, along with five backup dancers. He holds one pocky in each hand, and dances while bending his knees. Then, he holds a glass cup and pocky, and uses the pocky as a stir stick as a result of mishearing the lyrics, “Can’t touch this“, as “Chanto aundesu (It matches perfectly)“.

Meanwhile, in the ‘All’ episode, the backup dancers wear 12 different outfits that match each situation, such as ‘New Years’, ‘karaoke’, ’shaved ice’, and ‘beach’. Then, Ninomiya shows that pocky is a great match for various situations.

The 30-second CM titled “Akitabi (Fall Trip)“, features all five members going through the various routines of the airport and flying off in their plane.

Arashi’s Ninomiya and Matsumoto talk about “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS”

Once again, Arashi and Nintendo have paired up to deliver a new set of fun CMs!

This time, Arashi’s Ninomiya Kazunari (27) and Matsumoto Jun (27) give additional details about Nintendo 3DS‘, “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS”, which is scheduled to hit stores on June 16th in Japan. Both Ninomiya and Matsumoto explain about the depth of the graphics on the Nintendo 3DS, and their thoughts on how different it is from the original game on the Nintendo64.

Arashi takes to the air in new Japan Airlines CM

A new Japan Airlines (JAL) CM featuring mega-popular idol group Arashi has begun airing in Japan.
The clip features all five members running to the song “Tooku made,” the final track of Arashi’s upcoming album, “Beautiful World“. In one giant leap, the members take to the sky in pursuit of the perfect summer vacation.

Sakurai Sho becomes “pino” image character for 2nd consecutive year

Arashi’s Sakurai Sho has been chosen as the image character for Morinaga’s ice cream dessert, “pino“. This marks the second consecutive year where he will be representing “pino”, which welcomes its 35th anniversary this year.

In the CM broadcast last year, Sakurai portrayed a pâtissier in-training learning how to make “pino” from an older pâtissier. The new CM for this year will show him as an accomplished pâtissier struggling to create a “pino” with the perfect balance between chocolate and ice cream.

Both the 15-second and 30-second versions of the CM will start airing on May 20th. The “making of” video will also be available on the “pino” website on the 20th.

Previously, we reported about a new CM for au (mobile phone brand) featuring Arashi members, and today on May 1st, the new versions started airing.

In the previous CM, all Arashi members appeared in one CM, though it was a combination of individual scenes, but these new versions are featuring each member in one CM.

The song “Boku ga Boku no Subete” is being used in the new versions as well.
